That Husband Is Not Yours…
Update & Motivate:
Hello! I hope you’re doing well.
As I’ve mentioned, my larger writing group gets together every-other-Saturday for topic discussions or presentations. Saturdays are busy for me, so I usually can’t make these meetings, but this weekend, they asked me to do a question and answer session, a casual gathering for the group to ask me how I got my agent, the fabulous Ariana Philips. Obviously, I went to this session. I was curious to hear what I had to say.
It was a lot of fun. I love being with writerly types, and I can’t say enough how important I think it is to surround ourselves with people who lift us up.
The meeting reminded me of everything I’ve been through on this writing journey, and a question that came up a couple times was what made me keep going through the tough times?
There’s a parallel to life here, anything you want in life…
I keep going because there’s worth in it to me.
If you love something, if you want something, then you go after it. And the obstacles in the way? Well, you figure out how to climb them, go around them, under them, through them. There’s always a way forward. We just have to decide how important that thing is to us. The more important it is, the more trials you’ll allow yourself to face and overcome.
I can’t help thinking about the book I’m going to finish editing this week, Consumed. I’ve re-vamped this manuscript to include a character’s POV that wasn’t there before, L. Just the letter. And she wants someone else’s husband. While I love her “go-get-‘em” attitude, I must say, there are some things we probably shouldn’t be going after.
Book Review:
This book was recommended to me by Jama. (Thanks, Jama!) And it was another good one. I’ve read a lot of good suspense/thrillers lately. Yay!
Marissa slipped. She cheated on her loving husband. But she’s trying to make it right. She wants to fix her marriage with Matthew. She recognizes that her infidelity was a symptom of deeper flaws in their marriage. In Marissa’s determination to repair the marital divide, she seeks out an unconventional therapist who lost her license to treat.
Going back and forth between Marissa’s POV and Avery’s (the therapist), we uncover more and more lies and secrets. And the entire cast is suspicious.
Definitely recommend this one. I loved it.
Here are the Goodreads stats and summary:

This one was nominated for Best Mystery & Thriller in 2022 in the Goodreads Choice Awards.
Summary:
Wealthy Washington suburbanites Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to have it all—until Marissa is unfaithful. Beneath their veneer of perfection is a relationship riven by work and a lack of intimacy. She wants to repair things for the sake of their eight-year-old son and because she loves her husband. Enter Avery Chambers.
Avery is a therapist who lost her professional license. Still, it doesn’t stop her from counseling those in crisis, though they have to adhere to her unorthodox methods. And the Bishops are desperate.
When they glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.
Final thoughts:
Today’s post was shorter than usual because I’m heading back into my manuscript. So close to finishing!!
I hope you surround yourself with amazing people this week.
It’s not just cutting out negativity. It’s adding positivity. There are some great people out there.
I wish you much success as you handle whatever life throws at you this week. And the drive to go after what you want, unless it’s someone else’s husband.
Much glitter,
Melissa
